Collusion: DEA bans plant medicines, then Big Pharma patents them for profits

Is the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) really looking out for anyone’s best interests with their latest stand on natural, medicinal plants like cannabis and kratom? Most would tend to disagree with them, just on principle. But a deeper look into the matter reveals that their intent may be far more sinister than they want us to believe.

While the DEA consistently maintains that these plants work against the greater good, there are clearly a lot of questions about the agency’s integrity – especially when Big Pharma is involved.

Marijuana and THC – a well-known cannabinoid compound – are both illegal. And yet, as The Free Thought Project pointed out back in September, Big Pharma companies mass-produce and sell synthetic THC formulations, such as Marinol. Marinol is the brand name for dronabinol – the new name that the Big Pharma executives give to THC after it’s been synthesized in a lab. Marinol’s own website notes that THC is a naturally occurring compound found in cannabis. However, as Paul Armentano – the senior policy analyst for the marijuana legislation reform group NORML – notes, Marinol lacks many of the natural therapeutic compounds that are present in the cannabis plant. And because Marinol’s sole active ingredient is synthetic THC, and it’s taken orally, the psychoactive effects tend to be much stronger (and even problematic for some) compared to traditional cannabis. CBD, another beneficial compound, tends to help counteract the psychoactive effects of THC, and without it, you’re in for a whole different kind of ride.

Regardless of how one feels about Marinol and the fact that it offers only limited relief to patients in comparison to the plant it’s modeled after, it is exceedingly hypocritical of the FDA to approve of it while the DEA continues to prosecute marijuana to the fullest extent. It’s not just being blind to the facts or refusing to believe a plant could be medicinal; its outright sabotage at this point. The federal government has literally allowed Big Pharma to create medicine derived from the plant, and then made the plant itself illegal. It is simply mind-boggling how they can rationalize and justify such despicable behavior.

The DEA’s recent statement on kratom underlines the extreme lengths to which they will go to continue to assert that they are in the right, even if only to themselves. The agency filed a notice of intent declaring that they would “temporarily schedule the opioids mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, which are the main active constituents of the plant kratom, into schedule I pursuant to the temporary scheduling provisions of the Controlled Substances Act.” The notice then explained, “This action is based on a finding by the Administrator that the placement of these opioids into schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act is necessary to avoid an imminent hazard to the public safety.”

As is typical of bureaucratic agencies, the notice of intent continued in a similar fashion with its convoluted explanation.

And, of course, three synthetic opioids have been synthesized from the kratom plant, namely MGM-9, MGM-15 and MGM-16. Unsurprisingly, these three synthetics were developed from the kratom alkaloids, Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine – you know, the ones named by the DEA as an “imminent hazard to public safety.”

If these compounds are so dangerous, why on earth would Big Pharma be synthesizing them to make medicine? It just doesn’t seem to add up, but the federal agency continues to go along with their story of supposed danger to society, hoping we’ll all fall for it. It really tells you all you need to know about the DEA and their relationship with Big Pharma though, doesn’t it?

Family fights Medicaid for medical marijuana to save daughter’s life

Abby Muszynski, the 5-year-old daughter of Rich and Kim Muszynski, suffers from grand mal seizures. Her parents say that they can always tell when a seizure is about to start; her pupils enlarge, and she’ll seem to fixate on something in the distance that only she can see. And then her extremities will start to shake, and she gasps for air.

By the tender age of 3, Abby had already tried eight different anti-seizure medications, but none of them worked very well. Pained by the fact that their daughter’s condition only continued to worsen, the Muszynskis drove three hours to Orlando to visit Dr. Ngoc Minh Le, a board-certified pediatric neurologist and epileptologist.

Dr. Le told them that there was a very slim chance that any other anti-seizure medication would yield better results for Abby. He suggested that Abby be treated with medical marijuana. Just months before Dr. Le’s recommendation, Florida’s Governor Rick Scott had legalized the use of a specific strain of non-euphoric cannabis known as Charlotte’s Web.

Charlotte’s Web had been a miracle treatment for a little girl with Dravet syndrome named Charlotte Figi. Figi had been suffering with up to 300 grand mal seizures per week, and her parents were running out of options. Charlotte had even lost the ability to walk, talk or eat. At the age of 5, doctors told the family that there was nothing more that they could do for her.  And then, medical marijuana entered the picture. Though she was the youngest patient in the state of Colorado to apply for it, eventually her family found two doctors to approve it.

After giving their child the high-CBD cannabis oil, the Figis noticed an immediate improvement. Charlotte went an entire week without having a single seizure, something that hadn’t happened in a very long time. Just two doses of cannabis oil a day have kept her seizures at bay. Her story has inspired many other successes.

But, Charlotte’s Web didn’t work so well for Abby Muszynski. It helped, yes, but not as much as it helped Charlotte. Abby, unfortunately, was still having about two grand mal seizures every week. Dr. Le explained to the Muszynski family that Charlotte’s Web has a very low THC content, and suggested that a higher THC strain might be what’s best for Abby.

However, at that point in time, marijuana with a higher THC content wasn’t legally available for Abby – at least not in Florida. If they wanted to get it, the family would have to move and leave behind their friends and family, including two older children. Colorado seemed like it might be their best option; Kim had spoken to some parents with disabled children there, and they told her that the state had a fair and efficient Medicaid program.

But getting Abby to Colorado was going to be problematic. Her condition was so severe that doctors felt it wouldn’t be safe for her to fly. Long car rides were also out of the question. And so, the Muszynskis began their final fight with the state of Florida.

Kim began speaking with Medicaid officials in Florida about obtaining an air ambulance for Abby so that she could be moved safely. After speaking to and emailing with officials, it seemed that everything was going to go according to plan. They sold their home, and husband Rich went out to Colorado. Kim and Abby stayed behind to wait for their transport. After several days without confirmation, Kim Muszynski began writing emails to Florida officials begging for help – and eventually, she enlisted CNN reporter Elizabeth Cohen. Five days after their planned departure date, Kim and Abby finally received their air ambulance transport.

Rich welcomed his family home when they arrived in Colorado Springs, and within just a few weeks, miracles began to happen. The high-THC content cannabis stopped Abby’s seizures almost completely. Abby was having 2 to 4 seizures a week in Florida, and they lasted up to 12 minutes each. Now, Abby only experiences seizures about once  a week – and they only last a few seconds. Her mother Kim says that just a drop of cannabis oil under her tongue stops a seizure almost immediately.

And now that Abby is free of seizures, she is slowly making progress. Her parents hope that one day she may even be able to learn rudimentary sign language so that she can communicate.

This is what the call for the  legalization of marijuana is all about.

OUTRAGE: Medical marijuana cardholders barred from gun purchases

Usually when the federal government attempts to take away the freedoms of the American public, they do so one at a time, as to not draw too much attention to the fact that they are infringing on our rights as both human beings and as American citizens.

Every once in a while, though, they go full fascist, attempting to suppress multiple freedoms at once.

Thus is the case for the justices for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, who recently ruled that medical marijuana patients are not allowed to purchase firearms due to the fact that marijuana remains a Schedule I substance under federal law thanks to the corrupt DEA.

Just when it seemed as though the federal government had reached peak insanity in regards to their regulations, both cannabis and the Second Amendment are under attack at the same time, in the same court case.

In a discussion following the ruling, NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano stated, “There is no credible justification for a ‘marijuana exception’ to the US Constitution. Responsible adults who use cannabis in a manner that is compliant with the laws of their states ought to receive the same legal rights and protections as do other citizens.” It’s difficult to disagree with him.

It’s absolute madness that cannabis users — especially those who are using medical marijuana for health purposes — are not allowed to purchase firearms. This is a complete infringement of the Second Amendment that continues to treat gun owners like second-class citizens.

This absurd ruling serves as yet another example of the federal government attempting to completely enslave the American public. They know that there’s nothing even remotely harmful about marijuana. The fact that the plant has been considered as a legitimate medical cure by thousands of reputable sources proves this. Those who are fighting to keep it illegal are simply trying to accumulate more money for themselves.

It’s time that we elect politicians that are educated on the numerous health benefits of cannabis, while simultaneously getting rid of the closed-minded, Pharma-controlled sheep that fight to keep it criminalized. We’re onto their game and the easiest way to send a message is with our votes.

Pharma-peddling supermarket chain Publix throws $800K to fight against medicinal marijuana

What can be said about the corporate collusion to prevent the legalization of marijuana that hasn’t already been said time and time again?

Us logical, educated folks have been extremely outspoken regarding the complete ridiculousness of cannabis criminalization — frequently listing facts and statistics to back up our claims about the health and economic benefits that marijuana has — but the powers that be refuse to listen. Lining their pockets with dirty money is much more attractive to them than helping out the American people at large. But that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

They continue to wage war on logic and nature.

Recently, the trust of Carol Jenkins Barnett — who just so happens to be the daughter of Publix founder George W. Jenkins — recently donated $800,000 to the anti-legalization group Drug Free Florida. This is important for a number of reasons.

For starters, Miami New Times exposed Publix’s connection to both the Florida Medical Association (FMA) and PhRMA, reporting, “It appears that PhRMA and the FMA have shared PR firms on at least one occasion and that the FMA has historically maintained an entire lobbying wing dedicated to ‘Pharmaceutical Corporate Affairs.'”

In regards to Drug Free Florida, not only is the group opposed to the legalization of recreational marijuana, they also want to destroy medical marijuana. This is especially disgusting, considering how many illnesses can be cured and relieved by the medicinal elements of the plant. But Publix — on their Pharma-fueled high horse — will continue to ignore these facts. Instead, they’ll push the narrative that legalizing medicinal marijuana usage will lead to recreational usage, which, in turn, will lead to a complete collapse of society.

Seriously. That’s what these corrupt individuals are trying to do. Like the villains in a children’s cartoon, they’re so absurdly maniacal that it’s almost hard to believe that it’s all for real. It should be a joke, but it’s sadly the honest truth. They’re willing to let people suffer and even die in order to line their pockets with more money — and they’re all teaming up together.

As heartbreaking as that is, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise anymore. Money is what fuels all of these corporations — that’s how they end up joining forces with Big Pharma in the first place.
